warming center volunteer opportunities
As temperatures drop, many of our neighbors are in urgent need of a warm, safe place to stay while government buildings are closed. On January 19th, Martin Luther King's holiday, we are opening our building to host a warming center and we need your help!
Volunteers will assist with:
Greeting guests and helping with check‑in
Serving warm drinks and snacks
Setting up and maintaining a clean, welcoming space
Providing conversation, support, and a friendly presence
If you are able to hang out for a bit and staff the warming center please sign up at this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C044EACAE28A0FAC34-61357347-warming#/.
If you are not able to be there during that day, you can still help by donating snacks! Here is a link to sign up for food/snacks: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C044EACAE28A0FAC34-61356763-food#/
good faith network’s “join or die” documentary and discussion
On Saturday, January 24th from 1–3:30pm, Redemption Church will host a screening of the Emmy‑nominated documentary Join or Die, followed by a discussion. The film traces America’s civic unraveling through the work of social scientist Robert Putnam, whose landmark Bowling Alone research explores the decline of community connection and its impact on democracy.
Featuring insights from leaders and scholars such as Priya Parker, Pete Buttigieg, Vivek Murthy, Jane McAlevey, Hillary Clinton, and Eddie Glaude Jr., the documentary examines three urgent questions: What makes democracy work, why is it in crisis, and what can we do to strengthen it?
