Jo can often be found listening to audiobooks or podcasts, baking, and forgetting to move the laundry from the washing machine to the dryer. Her love languages are empty calories, the perfect gif, and pajama pants. She lives in Olathe with her husband- Drew, two kids- Elise and Edison, and a couple of ridiculous guinea pigs named Chicken and Nuggets.

Nancy Bartelt

Elementary Director

  • nancy@redemptionchurchkc.com

  • Nancy Bartelt has been serving as the Elementary Director of Redemption Church since early 2023. When her family began coming to Redemption the year before, she was captivated by the way folks at Redemption talk about and live out God's imagination for shalom. She has been leading songs, games, lessons and prayers for children in her church communities since she was a teenager.

She has always been passionate about joining Jesus’ creative and redeeming work in the world. She holds a degree in music therapy and a certificate in Spiritual Direction. Nancy loves the way kids 'keep it real' and remind us how playful God is. It brings her huge joy and hope to wonder, play, and learn with kids & families as we lean into life together with God.

She and her husband have four kids in various stages of leaving the nest. In her spare time, she loves writing haikus, creating collaborative art projects, eating dessert, traveling, having deep conversations, and avoiding housework.

Having grown up in churches where the highest calling in ministry was generally to roles requiring public speaking, Andrew has been thrilled to find his own niche in keeping the lights on, keeping the spaces conditioned, and not having to stand in front of people with a microphone (not often anyway).

On any given evening, Andrew can almost certainly be found spending time with his wife Abbie, his daughter Melody, and his two dogs and one cat. When given a chance and a bit of his own time, he loves playing games, reading, and doing puzzles.

Elders

Redemption church is led through the partnership of pastoral staff, church staff and the elders. These three groups work together to discern God’s leading for our church and then to plan and execute toward that leading. The elders have final say over staffing, financial, and spiritual leadership issues. We attempt to do everything by consensus and generally abide by the admonition from scripture: “be subject to one another.” We do everything out in the open and anyone can see our budget/financial records at any time.
