Holy Week
Holy week is the week that leads up to Easter, the holiest day in the Christian calendar. It is a time of great religious significance, as it commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday, when Christians celebrate Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. It ends on Easter Sunday, when Christians celebrate Jesus' resurrection from the dead.
During Holy Week, Christians attend special services and participate in special rituals. For example, on Maundy Thursday, the Church remembers the Last Supper. On Good Friday, Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. On Holy Saturday, Christians commemorate the burial of Jesus Christ. On Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Holy Week is a time of great joy and celebration for Christians. It is a time to reflect on the meaning of Jesus' death and resurrection, and to have one’s faithfulness renewed for another year.
Maundy Thursday marks the beginning of the most sacred time of the Christian year, commemorating the night Jesus shared his final meal with his disciples, known as the Last Supper. The word “Maundy” comes from the Latin “mandatum,” meaning “commandment,” reflecting Jesus’ command to love one another as He has loved us.
Good Friday is a special service during Holy Week that invites the Church to gather together to mourn the death of Jesus.
Join us to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Easter Sunday begins the Season of Eastertide. This special holiday asks the people of God to gather and contemplate the mystery of Christ’s resurrection. This is a family service, therefore it will be shorter than normal and there will be no childcare available. We can’t wait to be together for this special holiday.
