THE HIGH SCHOOL HIKING TRIP
2025 Dates:
March 15th - 18th
Welcome to our high school hiking trip website. The youth ministry at Redemption provides an overview of the retreat, its purpose, and experiences. This trip fosters growth, connection, and reflection among students in nature. Please explore the information and reach out with any questions or concerns. Your engagement is important, and we look forward to sharing this journey.
Hope
Hope is not rooted in our achievements or societal measures of success, but rather in the bonds we forge through faithfulness and solidarity. The Book of James underscores the importance of community, urging us to embrace our vulnerabilities and the shared struggles of others. It is within these connections that we find true bonds and encouragement, recognizing that every story shapes us and every individual has a role in the story of God. By lifting one another up, we cultivate an environment where hope flourishes—not in the contrast of our victories but in the authenticity of our journeys together, embracing the redemptive work God is continuously doing in each of our lives.
Where
We will be headed to Ponca, Arkansas, nestled near the scenic Buffalo River. This stunning location offers a blend of rolling hills, lush forests, and breathtaking river views. The trails cater to all skill levels, allowing us to immerse ourselves in nature while experiencing the tranquility that only the outdoors can provide. As we hike, we will encounter diverse wildlife and picturesque landscapes that make Ponca a perfect getaway to contemplate the hope of God.
“Following Jesus involves leaving the comfortable place and going to a place that is outside our comfort zone. Spiritual displacement is what is called for. The dictionary says that to displace is ‘to move or to shift from the ordinary or proper place. As a ship at sea displaces water, so we are displaced when something greater than ourselves moves us in a new direction or state of being. For displacement to be a real discipline, it has to be voluntary. Voluntary displacement prevents us from being caught in the net of the ordinary and proper. It is the discipline essential to remembering who we really are and remaining in touch with our greatest gifts of gratitude and compassion.””
