Mission ¡Adelante!Jarrett Meek and his wife Kristen spent several years in Bolivia working with local churches and training pastors. Since they've been back in KC, they have been working within the Hispanic community, directing Mission ¡Adelante! In June 2005, our own Seth and Andrea Sears moved their family to the Mission Adelante neighborhood to join the ministry as full-time staff members. Mission Adelante's primary focus is to teach English to families who need to be able to communicate in our culture in order to get by. Jarrett writes "We envision an urban mission to Hispanic immigrants of all socio-economic levels which seeks to win them to Christ through serving them at the point of their felt needs, discipling them relationally, equipping them to lead, and mobilizing them to serve, toward the end of planting a community-impacting, leader-reproducing bilingual church." In 2008, God provided the ministry with a permanent home on 18th Street in KC, KS, which they are presently using while they renovate. Mission ¡Adelante! has a very successful ESL program with plenty of opportunities for "Gringos" to be involved. One of their biggest needs is just for conversation partners who can help those in the ESL classes to practice their English. No Spanish is required for this level and there are weekly opportunities to be involved. While the parents are learning English, the kids are having a blast and learning the story of God through an amazing program called Kid's Adelante! They have also recently opened a Resource Center to help with the physical needs of those in the neighborhood. If you have a heart for the Hispanic community and would like to join this incredible ministry, please contact Beth Price for more information. Photos
